Collection: Julie Cee Cheff

Julie C. Cheff is a LGBTQ+ artist with disabilities who completed her Fine Arts degree at Algonquin College (1985) and continued specializing in visual arts (painting, oil as media and life drawing) at the OSA (the Ottawa School of Art) till 1989!

After participating in numerous student shows, she was invited to show her work at the Saw gallery (Byward Market) as well as having her own solo exhibition at the Centre St-Famille (Clarence-Rockland) in 1995!

She went on to work as a graphic designer for different publishing companies and in her own business “Phantom Designs” which would help pay the bills but left her empty emotionally as an artist!

Her quest for a better understanding of herself and of the world around her led her to studying Psychology at Carleton University where her introductory work was on “Art as Therapy ''. Her studies would ultimately influence how she uses the language of symbolism and dream-states to communicate through her paintings!

"As a surrealist, I like to use the language of symbolism and dream imagery to communicate my thoughts and ideas in my artwork!"
